Backlinking is one of the most vital aspects of any SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) campaign.  It is the one aspect that you can continually work on to help improve your site in the search engines.  Other aspects are one off events, but backlinking can keep going for as long as you can find backlinks.

This means that it is important you have set techniques in place for finding these backlinks.  The last thing that you want to be doing is to be having to reinvent the wheel every time that you are trying to get backlinks.  You need to be able to find them quickly and easily.  That means having a technique in place, or multiple techniques.

Great Backlinking Techniques

The best thing to do is have a small number of techniques that you know inside out, that you can turn to in order to get backlinks whenever you need them.  For us 3 of the best backlinking techniques are

1)      Blog commenting.  Whilst this technique is as old as the hills, it still works.  You can get links off some cracking sites by simply commenting on articles – and potentially even gain traffic from visitors who click your link.

It is important to not just spam your site – not least because doing so could get your site added to a ‘spam list’ and so stop if appearing on many sites even when you are doing it legitimately.

2)      Article writing.  You can use this to rank on other sites for keywords, and send the traffic back to your own site.  It also allows you to tap into the power of other domains for passing on link juice.

Try to aim at sites other than just article directories – guest posting on blogs can get a lot of power from sites your competitors are unlikely to be able to get themselves.

3)      Profile creation.  Many web 2.0 sits and forums allow you to create profiles – and from within these profiles allow you to code in HTML or BBC, obviously allowing you to be able to post up links to your site.
